Seahorses like so many creatures in the sea are almost other worldly. This piece is as much about a seahorse and their many segments as it is about how reality can seem fragmented. How things can be so familiar, similar, and alien at the same time. I really like the contrast in textures and color that I achieved with this piece. I wanted to show a high contrast of light and dark but I also wanted a contrast between organic and non-organic textures. Seahorses are fascinating animals. They have so many segments to their skin it makes them a very interesting subject.
