I really enjoy drawing sea turtles and wanted to do a piece that was distinctly Florida without being obvious. In my previous turtle drawing "The Earth Builder" I did a combination of African and Australian tribal patterns. So I decided to make this piece a distinctly Florida turtle. I researched Seminole Indian patterns and found out that their patterns often depicted animals, water, and weather. My goal was to use visual patterns to represent patterns in the life of a sea turtle. Born among thousands they must survive many challenges, a perfect combination to illustrate the "Obstacles" in a sea turtles life.
My originals are hand drawn graphite on smooth Bristol paper and come framed in a frame that I buy from Michael’s with a 40% off coupon.
